Starting this year, the DOCD will align our East Side Bike Nights with this popular all makes bike night focused on European OEMS, Pre-2000s Japanese, Vintage bike from the 1930s through 1970s, Cafe Racers, Mods/Rockers, and custom hand built motorcycles. If you haven't experienced the Windy 9, you're missing out on some of the best technical riding east of the Mississippi. This is the trip that put DOC Detroit on the map for serious backroads exploration—tight, twisty, and absolutely addictive pavement that snakes through the Appalachian foothills of Southeast Ohio and dips into wild West Virginia.

The Roads: Forget straight lines. The Windy 9 routes are legendary for a reason—elevation changes, hairpin turns, and tree-canopied stretches that'll have you grinning inside your helmet. Two full days (June 12-13) of pure riding bliss on roads purpose-built for carving corners. Whether you're chasing apexes or cruising scenery, these routes deliver non-stop. Registered participants will receive a link to all the routes for download to your navigation device of choice.

Home Base: Ohio University Inn in Athens—our comfortable headquarters right in the heart of a classic college town. After dancing through the curves all day, decompress poolside with a cold one and swap stories with your crew. No need to go anywhere for dinner—we'll gather for group dining at the hotel's restaurant, where the food is as good as the company.

The DOC Detroit Tradition: This is our most popular out-of-state ride for good reason. Year after year, riders come back because the combination is unbeatable: world-class twisties, easy logistics, and that perfect balance of throttle therapy and relaxation.

Secure Your Spot: The club will book a block of rooms and provide a reservation link to those who have registered. Registration will open as soon as we have confirmed the dates with the Inn.

Cost: All costs for rooms and meals will be handled directly by participants. The room rate is $169/night plus taxes including breakfast.

Dates:

June 11: Travel day to Athens
June 12-13: Full riding days (modified Windy 9 routes)
June 14: Travel day home

Important—Register NOW to reserve Your Spot: To lock in enough lodges for everyone, we need committed riders. We will ask Spillway to lock enough lodges to accommodate us a week from today - Feb 22. Spillway to keep the booking window open for 7 days, until March 1st. All registered participants will receive a discount code to book rooms with.

The Ride: We depart from SE Michigan and carve our way north on backroads that'll remind you why you love two wheels. Two full days of exploring the best ribbons of asphalt Northern Michigan has to offer—think tight corners, scenic overlooks, and zero highway monotony. Whether you're on a cruiser, sport bike, or adventure rig, these roads deliver.

Base Camp: Spillway Lodges in Bellaire—your home away from home. After logging miles all day, kick back in the lodge hot tub or sauna, swap stories, and walk into downtown Bellaire for dinner and live music at Short's Brewery. No designated drivers needed.

Cost: Club members will get a 10% discount off the website price, which will be about the same as last year. This year, it will be the responsibility of the attendees to book rooms directly.

BLUE RIDGE & BEYOND: A RIDER'S INVITATION

Eight Days in the Appalachian Mountains

September 12–20, 2025 · Waynesville, NC

There are roads, and then there are these roads. The southern Appalachians have earned a singular reputation among motorcyclists — a geography so perfectly sculpted for riding that it draws pilgrims from across the country every season. This September, we go.

THE ROADS

Our routes span North Carolina, Tennessee, and dip into northern Georgia. Each road has its own character and its own rewards.

· Deals Gap — 318 curves in 11 miles. The Dragon awaits.

· Cherohala Skyway — High-altitude sweepers through national forest.

· Blue Ridge Parkway — America's Favorite Drive. Miles of flowing ridge road.

· NC 28 — Technical river road through the Nantahala Gorge.

· Canada Road — Remote, raw, and beautifully challenging.

WHY SEPTEMBER

We chose September deliberately. The summer crowds have thinned. The humidity breaks. Temperatures at elevation are crisp in the morning and golden in the afternoon.

THE CAMARADERIE

The best riding trips are built on the spaces between the riding — the debrief over dinner, the coffee before dawn, the satisfaction of a long day's route replayed around the table at night. Our Waynesville Airbnb becomes home base and gathering place. Some nights we'll cook together; other nights we'll explore the town's restaurants.

A NOTE ON SKILL & PREPARATION

The roads on this trip are not Sunday afternoon sightseeing routes. Deals Gap, NC 28, and Canada Road are technical, demanding, and unforgiving of complacency. They are also transcendent when you are prepared for them.

We ask every participant to arrive with their skills sharp. The months leading up to September are your training window. Seek out roads that push you out of your comfort zone. Work on your corner entry, your vision, your throttle discipline. If your budget allows, a track day — or two — is one of the single best investments you can make in your riding.

This isn't about riding fast. It's about riding well — with precision, awareness, and the confidence that comes from genuine preparation. Arrive ready, and this trip will be the benchmark against which you measure every ride that follows.

COMMIT BY THE END OF MAY

We are capping this trip at 10 riders to preserve the quality of the experience. To secure our Waynesville house, we need commitments in hand by the end of May. If you're in, say so — and mean it. This is a trip worth planning for.

Zing to Zinc - A Michigan Backroads Adventure

When: Saturday, September 26th
Starting Point: Zingerman's Roadhouse, Ann Arbor, MI
Destination: Zinc Cafe, Midland, MI
Distance: ~280 miles round trip

Join us for the inaugural Z2Z ride - from Zingerman's to Zinc! We'll fuel up on Roadhouse Joe coffee and breakfast before hitting Michigan's best backroads through rolling countryside and charming small towns.

One of the riding highlights of the route is Pine River Rd which snakes along the river from St. Louis (MI not MO!) into Midland.

If you have never been to the Zinc Cafe, you are in for a treat. The club has visited this Midland gem several times and it always gets a big thumbs up.

We will explore more back roads on the return to Hartland, where everyone will part ways to head home. It's a long day in the saddle, so make sure your Duc is up to the task.

Join us for a tour through WV, VA and KY.

What to expect:

The first day will take us on some great twisty roads through sparsely populated areas of WV ending with the Back of the Dragon in SW VA. On day 2 we will hop back over the Appalachians through VA and KY ending our day in Berea, KY. Day 3 will bring us back to Huntington through eastern, KY. The routes are still being tweaked, but we are looking at around 800 miles over 3 full days of riding. The roads are entertaining, not super technical, but also not beginner friendly in places. We will be in some remote areas, so make sure your riding skills and bike are in tip top shape!
